Filmed in 1970, it was the first hardcore film by the legendary Amero Brothers. It is a strange and surreal story that takes place in the dream state of a young beautiful women (Ute Erickson) with a guilty conscience. Both haunting and erotic, the film was shot with an eye for artistic composition and imagery. It has been deemed Fellini-esque and has an obvious George Romero quality to it. In the 40 years since its release, Bacchanale has not seen its equal in the adult film genre.
The film was actually shot as semi-softcore with the hardcore inserts shot and added later using uncredited performances from Harry Reems, Tina Russel and Jason Russel.
